Moody Fall Maternity Session at Purgatory Chasm
This moody maternity session was dreamt up by Sarah and I last fall. She put her trust me. Between her initial ideas and my guidance to style our session, we created some of my favorite images. The bright orange of the fall leaves against the charcoal grey of Purgatory Chasm's stone created an idyllic backdrop to the witchy, magical maternity gowns Sarah and I chose from Flutter Dress. When paired with a sun crown and Sarah's hair and makeup (that she did herself!), our vision was complete. Not to mention, we had a perfect autumn day to work with. Check out this witchy vision of a mama to be!
Sarah rented a sparkly gold dress and a black, lace and velvet gown, both from Flutter Dress. As you can clearly see, this amazing mama to be was a champ climbing on rocks and hiking to the best photo spots. As is typical with our maternity sessions, we chose to do this session at about 29 weeks so she'd still have a bit of energy AND her bump for our time together.
I love how we were able to get two really beautiful looks out of one location. Each dress worked brilliantly at Purgatory Chasm. We posed Sarah closer to the tree line, by the brighter leaves that still had a little more yellow to them, where the stone work was a lighter shade of grey. We used a little off camera flash to highlight the sparkle of the dress.
For the black dress we climbed down in to the Chasm where the lighting was more moody and the stone darker. We used only a bounce and natural light. The leaves crunched under our shoes as we made our way through Purgatory Chasm. I truly think this was my favorite part of the session.
