Love in the Stacks - An Emmanuel College Engagement Session
We joined Abbi and James at their alma mater and the place where their love first blossomed, Emmanuel College in Boston.
Emmanuel is a private, Catholic college founded in 1919 by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. Located in the heart of Boston’s Fenway neighborhood, its campus is made up of several historical buildings, as well as newer structures like the Jean Yawkey Building.
We started off in the library, where the couple spent countless hours studying together and falling in love. The lighting was perfect. Built in 1971, it’s a somewhat more modern space with just as much of a wow factor as some of the older buildings on campus. It’s large windows, concrete walls, and spacious reading room were PERFECT for our first few shots.
Surrounded by books and spaces that hold so many memories for them. we took candids while they strolled through the stacks and caught sneaky photos through the bookshelves of them browsing for books and stealing hidden kisses. We even pretended to study a bit, but of course made it fashion. These are probably some of my favorite images from the session.
As we moved around the Emmanuel College campus, we took advantage of the stunning architecture all around us. We headed away from the library toward one of the oldest buildings on campus which houses its Administration offices.
Built in 1864 with a mix of Gothic and Italianate architectural styles, it originally served as a high school for girls.
This campus quad is so pretty and I love how the green of the lawn and red of the brick pops as a result of the overcast sky and diffused lighting.
We ended our session at The Emmanuel Chapel, a massive, jaw-dropping architectural feature of the college. It was built in 1951 as a replica of a 16th-century chapel in Portugal, and features intricate wood carvings, stained glass windows and a bell tower. The stonework around the entrance and the massive front doors are so impressively detailed. What a gorgeous space!
Congratulations Abbi + James!
