Elise & Bill’s Intimate (& Delicious!) Union Square Wedding in Somerville

We love being part of local weddings in our own neighborhood, especially when they unfold in such unique and vibrant spaces as Juliet (a restaurant and supper club we LOVE) and Prospect Hill Park and Tower, both in Somerville.

Elise and Bill’s wedding was a perfect reflection of their adventurous spirit and appreciation for the charm just north of Boston. Their day was intimate, relaxed, and infused with the warmth of their close-knit community—a true reflection of what makes micro-weddings so special.

Elise and Bill began their day with a heartfelt ceremony at Prospect Hill Park, one of Somerville’s hidden gems. Under the shelter of a towering tree, they exchanged vows surrounded by their closest family and friends. The lush greenery and panoramic views of the city skyline added a sense of serenity and majesty to the moment. It felt as though the tree, strong and timeless, symbolized the foundation of their new life together. As photographers, capturing that blend of nature, emotion, and cityscape was a dream.

Prospect Hill is a historic site known for its sweeping views of Boston and its significance in the American Revolution. The park features the Prospect Hill Tower, which commemorates the spot where the first American flag, the "Grand Union Flag," was raised in 1776. Surrounded by lush greenery and walking paths, it offers a peaceful retreat within the city, making it a popular spot for locals and visitors alike. Its combination of history, natural beauty, and panoramic vistas make it a unique venue for intimate events like weddings.

The towering monument nearby, standing tall as a symbol of freedom and revolution, was a quiet but meaningful reminder of the city’s rich past. There was something poetic about tying the knot in a place with such deep roots in Somerville’s story.

As family went ahead to the reception venue, we stayed behind for couples photos around the park, leisurely making our way into union square for the reception.

Reception at Juliet: A Feast for the Senses

After the ceremony, we followed the newlyweds to Union Square, where they hosted an intimate dinner reception at Juliet. Tucked away in one of Somerville’s most dynamic neighborhoods, Juliet is a culinary treasure that makes every meal feel like an artful, personal experience. The warm, cozy interior, with its open kitchen and stylish yet unpretentious décor, created the perfect backdrop for the evening’s festivities.

The Union Square Vibe

Located in the heart of Union Square, their reception spot, Juliet is surrounded by the artistic energy and eclectic charm that make Somerville such a special place to get married. Union Square itself has a vibrant, almost bohemian vibe, with colorful murals, indie shops, and an ever-changing array of food spots and cafés. There’s something so authentically "Somerville" about it, and it’s an area we love shooting in for its blend of urban edge and community spirit.

For local weddings, Union Square is the perfect spot—whether you're grabbing a post-reception drink at one of the nearby bars or strolling through its streets for some spontaneous couple portraits. The area’s mix of modern and historic architecture provides endless opportunities for capturing dynamic, unique photos. We love weaving the couple’s story into the fabric of the city, making it not just about the two of them but about the place they’ve chosen to start their next chapter together.

One of the things we love most about weddings at Juliet is how the space transforms to fit the couple’s vision. For Elise and Bill, the restaurant’s intimate layout felt just right. The atmosphere was filled with conversation and laughter, making it feel less like a formal reception and more like a gathering of close friends sharing a beautiful meal together.

The food at Juliet is nothing short of extraordinary. Known for their farm-to-table philosophy, they serve up plates that not only taste amazing but also tell a story about the local ingredients and the care that goes into each dish. From the delicate appetizers to the mouthwatering main courses, every bite was a reminder of why this venue is such a standout for food-loving couples. Elise and Bill’s guests were treated to a culinary journey that reflected their adventurous tastes, with seasonal flavors and dishes that were both elegant and comforting.

Why We Love Local Weddings

As photographers, there’s something magical about being part of a local wedding. We know these neighborhoods inside and out—the hidden parks, the best light at different times of day, the pulse of the streets. Elise and Bill’s day was a perfect reminder of why we love being part of weddings here in Somerville. The combination of natural beauty, like Prospect Hill Park, with the urban charm of places like Juliet, makes each local wedding feel both personal and adventurous.

There’s a certain energy that comes from a local celebration. It’s not just about the convenience of being close to home—it’s about celebrating the places we love alongside couples who feel just as connected to the area. Elise and Bill’s wedding was an incredible example of this, and we felt lucky to be part of it.

Elise and Bill’s wedding at Prospect Hill Park and Juliet was a celebration of love, community, and the vibrant local culture that makes Somerville weddings so unique. From the heartfelt vows under a towering tree to the intimate dinner at one of Union Square’s best restaurants, their day was filled with joy, warmth, and the flavors of the city they call home.

If you're planning a local wedding and want to capture the beauty of Somerville in all its adventurous, eclectic glory, we’d love to be part of your journey!
