Family: Sunny Summer Family Session in the Common
We’re back at one of our favorite places! From the weeping willows, to the iconic bridge, swan boats, and peekaboo views of downtown Boston, what’s not to love? Close to Beacon Hill AND the Charles River Esplanade, it’s of Boston’s most desirable and quintessential places to get your photo taken.
We love working with families here - the location is great, it’s got loads of gorgeous backdrops for your family photos, and it’s so easy to navigate when it’s not overcrowded (which it easily can be, so get yourself a photographer who knows when to go!).
This joyous family and their fearless leader, Teddy were so much fun to hang in the park with. Who else loves every Golden Retriever they’ve ever met?!
We photographed this session a little later in the day than I normally would, because sometimes as a parent you don’t have the flexibility to shoot during golden hour and we get that. With the sun so bright, it could have been a challenge, but the Commons and surrounding area give us a number of shady areas to photograph under, and with the right equipment and a little patience we can actually make that late morning glow POP!
I always bring an assistant with me for family session or sessions with dogs, but it’s also great to have someone to help out during a sunny day. Never underestimate the power of a good bounce or fill light to help balance out unflattering shadows created by harsh, direct light.
This session was especially meaningful as we visited different locations in the park and along the Charles that had significance for this little family of four.
